Dr. (Col) V K Gupta

Dr. (Col) V K Gupta is a distinguished Physician from capital city of India, specialising in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy. He is a veteran medical practitioner with more than 30 years of rich experience in the field of Endoscopic Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Interventions and Hepatology. 

Dr. Gupta accomplished his medical graduation- MBBS in 1982 from Moti Lal Nehru Medical College, Allahabad. Post completion of MD (Medicine) in 1989 from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, he pursued his super specialisation- DM (Gastroenterology) from the country's ace medical academic institute, AIIMS, New Delhi in 1996.

Dr. Gupta is presently working as Senior Consultant and HOD Gastroenterology at Max Superspeciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh and Pitam Pura, Delhi since August 2011. Previously, he served in Army as Professor and Senior Consultant (Medicine and Gastroenterology) at Command Hospital and Armed Forces Medical College complex at Pune. The primary role at these places was to provide state of the art Gastroenterology care to all the cases referred from a large number of hospitals dependent on these Command Hospitals. More important than that, the role aimed at training young Physicians and Gastroenterologists regarding the correct ways of practicing Medicine and Clinical and Interventional Gastroenterology.

Dr. Gupta got an opportunity to work at probably the busiest service hospital of Indian Armed Forces at Jammu as a Consultant Physician. During his tenure of five years, he gained unparalleled experience at this hospital which led to his early selection for the study leave in Gastroenterology at AIIMS and United Nations Mission as well.

During 1993, he was selected by Army HQ and was entrusted with the task of providing specialist cover as Consultant Physician to various International Armies of UN mission at Cambodia. He did special work related to the treatment of large number of Malaria and Tuberculosis cases. The work done had a special mention and was appreciated by WHO at a conference held at Pnom Penh in Sep 1993.

Dr. Gupta has been able to achieve immense respect and trust in his long service of three decades due to continual dedication and commitment towards his profession. Some of his career highlights and achievements are as listed below -

- Performed maximum number of Gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary endoscopic interventions in Armed Forces till date. He has credit of doing many procedures for the first time in Armed Forces.
- Managed maximum number of Pancreatic fistulae by endoscopic intervention.
- Transnasal endoscopy and Transnasal PEG.
- A large number of cases with Pancreatic duct Calculi have been managed endoscopically.
- Evolved the technique of Esophageal stenting and Achalasia dilatation with precision without using the Fluoroscopy.
- Trained many Gastroenterologists in Armed Forces to undertake endoscopic procedures.
- Formulated long-term/short term strategic plans & SOPs to provide standardized health care in Gastroenterology Services.
- Implemented strict measures in operating procedures to optimize resources/capacity utilization.
- Managed the operations including budgeting, personnel planning.
- Proper implementation of policies keeping in mind the organizational goal.
- Planning and procuring Medical equipments and consumables with strict cost control for benefit of the organization. He aas adviser to Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services from 2004 - 2009 for all the procurements related to Gastroenterology, for the hospitals all over the country.
- Conducted Hepatitis B and C screening camps.

Dr. Gupta has experience of organizing various national and international level conferences like Annual Conference of INASL 2008, APDW 2008 and ISG 2000, 2001, 2008 and UPISGCON 2002 & Maharashtra ISGCON 2011.
